Shrimp Fritto Misto
The Olive Garden Italian restaurant serves a mixed-fried shrimp appetizer called Shrimp Fritto Misto. More than a pound of shrimp and bell peppers are combined to make this seafood snack, which is then hand-breaded and lightly fried. Serve with marinara or homemade spicy ranch! This shrimp appetizer is ideal for lunch or a gathering.

What is Shrimp Fritto Misto?
Fried shrimp fritto The Italian word for fried and mixed is misto (mixed). This appetizer, Olive Garden Shrimp Fritto Misto, is created with breaded shrimp, onions, and bell peppers and is served with spicy ranch and marinara on the side. I should point out that this is not an Olive Garden spicy shrimp appetizer; while the cherry peppers add a little tang and kick, it is not hot, and all of my kids can eat it without any issues. It goes without saying that this shrimp recipe is really tasty!
After dining out with the family and bringing home some leftover food, this Olive Garden recipe was reproduced at home. Since everyone liked the shrimp appetizer, I made an effort to duplicate the breading and sauce with what was left over. I started looking into the possibilities after it appeared that the breading had a crunchy cornmeal texture. To make things easier, I used some of the breading I made as my wet batter after determining I needed a wet and dry breading.
This Olive Garden shrimp appetizer tastes just like the real thing, plus you’ll adore how crispy it turns out! Although shrimp appetizers are excellent finger snacks, this dish can be used for so much more! These can be used as appetizers, stuffed into shrimp tacos, topped with Alfredo sauce over pasta dishes, or even used as breading for chicken fritta instead of seafood!
Shrimp Fritto Misto Ingredients:

- Spicy Ranch Sauce- I just used finely grated parmesan cheese, creamy ranch dressing, cherry pepper hoagie spread, and Olive Garden salad dressing (available in bottles) to make the homemade spicy ranch recipe.
- Raw Medium Shrimp-You can use giant shrimp with tails on, but be sure to use raw shrimp. I used medium raw peeled shrimp from Aldi.
- Breading- is a blend of dry ingredients, including paprika, dried parsley, seasoned salt, garlic salt, lemon pepper, cornstarch, ground cornmeal, and all-purpose flour.
- Wet Batter-is prepared using equal parts water and the dry breading mentioned before.
- Add-ons:Any vegetable that can be fried can be added, such as artichokes, broccoli, or asparagus in place of bell peppers. Lacking shrimp? Make calamari with this breading!
How To Make Shrimp Fritto Misto Appetizer:
This shrimp appetizer recipe from Olive Garden is really simple and quick to prepare. Before breading, make sure your shrimp are frozen and ready to use. You will also need a big pot for deep frying. I prefer to remove the shrimp to a dish lined with paper towels using a slotted spoon. Prepare your frying station so that cooking is simple and seamless.
- Whisk together all the ingredients for the Olive Garden Spicy Ranch. Cover and refrigerate until you’re ready to use it.
- Mix together all of the breading’s dry ingredients. Whisk together and remove 1/2 cup of the breading for the wet batter.
- Mix the reserved breading with half a cup of cold water to make the wet batter.
- If you were thawing the shrimp, drain them from the water. Assemble the breading station and cut the bell peppers into strips.
- It takes roughly two to three minutes to deep fry the shrimp, and up to one minute for the vegetables.
- Using a slotted spoon, remove the fried shrimp or veggies and place them on a paper towel-lined dish.
- Serve with the hot marinara or ranch sauce on a dish.

- 1 set of measuring cups and spoons
- 1 slotted spoon
- 2 dinner plates (lined with paper towels)
- 2 mixing bowls (for breading and wet batter)Shrimp Fritto Misto
Ingredients
- 16 oz raw medium shrimp (thawed and drained)
- 1/2 red bell pepper cut into strips (can do part red and green)
Spicy Ranch:
- 1/4 cup creamy ranch dressing (I used Hidden Valley)
- 1 Tbsp cherry pepper spread
- 3 Tbsp parmesan cheese
- 3 Tbsp Olive Garden dressing Shrimp Fritto Misto
Breading:
- 2 Tbsp cornstarch
- 1 Tbsp dried parsley
- 2 Tbsp ground cornmeal
- 2 tsp paprika
- 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp lemon pepper
- 1/2 Tbsp seasoned salt (I used Lawry’s seasoned salt)
- 1/2 Tbsp garlic salt (Lawry’s brand)Shrimp Fritto Misto

- Make the spicy ranch:Mix all the sauce ingredients together, cover, and refrigerate until needed.

2. In a medium bowl combine all of the breading ingredients. Whisk together and reserve 1/2 cup for the wet batter.

3. Combine half a cup of the reserved breading and half a cup of cold water in a small basin. The moist batter is this.

4. Working in small batches, dip the shrimp and bell pepper strips first in the wet batter and then in the dry breading. I prefer to start with 6–8 shrimp in the fryer and work my way up to bread. Since the peppers fry quickly, fry them last.

5.Over medium-high heat, deep-fry the shrimp in batches until they are brown and float to the top (2–3 minutes).

6.The bell peppers cook for around one minute.

7.Place the peppers and fried shrimp on a paper towel-lined platter.

8 .Serve with marinara or spicy ranch sauce.
