Classic Lasagna
For this traditional lasagna, you can use either sweet or hot Italian sausage. Although it takes a while to prepare, it feeds a large group of people, and the leftovers taste even better the following day!Classic Lasagna

Ingredients Classic Lasagna
- 9 lasagna noodles
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 pound ground beef
- 3 large eggs, beaten
- ⅓ cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 pound shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 pound bulk Italian sausage
- 1 (16 ounce) can sliced mushrooms, drained
- 1 teaspoon garlic salt
- 4 (15 ounce) cans tomato sauce
- salt and pepper to taste
- 1 (15 ounce) container ricotta cheese
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- ½ teaspoon dried thyme
- ¼ teaspoon dried basil

Turn the oven on to 175 degrees Celsius (350 degrees Fahrenheit).Classic Lasagna

Bring a big pot of water that has been lightly salted to a boil. Add the olive oil and lasagna noodles. Cook for 8 to 10 minutes until al dente, then drain.Classic Lasagna

In a large pot, cook the sausage and ground beef over medium heat; drain. Add the tomato sauce, oregano, thyme, basil, mushrooms, and garlic salt. Add salt and pepper for seasoning. Simmer for half an hour.Classic Lasagna

In the meantime, combine the eggs, Parmesan cheese, and ricotta cheese in a bowl.Classic Lasagna

Spread a thin layer of sauce over the bottom of a 9 x 13-inch baking dish. Over the sauce, arrange three lasagna noodles. Over the noodles, spread roughly one-third of the ricotta cheese mixture. Over the ricotta cheese mixture, scatter about 1/4 of the mozzarella cheese. Cover the mozzarella cheese with roughly one-third of the meat sauce. Continue layering twice more, adding the last of the mozzarella cheese at the end.

Bake in preheated oven until cheese melts and sauce bubbles, about 90 minutes. Cover lasagna with foil if cheese begins to get too dark. Let sit 10 to 15 minutes before serving.
