We saved a ton of money when I made Olive Garden’s imitation chicken scampi at home! What if I told you that you could create four servings of this delectable dish for the price of one? I mean, $17.50 for one portion of chicken scampi is kind of insane. You won’t ever order it at a restaurant again after trying my recipe!

I absolutely adore Olive Garden’s Alfredo sauce, and their famed chicken scampi is one of my favorite dishes to order. Thin angel hair pasta is served with breaded chicken tenders cooked in a rich wine sauce with bell peppers. Is there anything not to love? However, in all honesty, it may get very expensive, particularly if you plan to eat out with your kids.

We just keep eating Olive Garden’s breadsticks as they’re a family favorite and they never go out of style! But since they’re so simple to make, I also make my own homemade version!

The recipe card below has a full list of ingredients and proportions.

  • Chicken tenderloins Sliced chicken breast, olive oil, and chicken breast (known as small chicken fillets in the UK).
  • All-purpose flour,Add the salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning.
  • Garlic, red onion, and bell peppers in various hues.

  1. In a medium-sized saucepot, boil water and salt it. Add your pasta, and cook according to the package instructions. When the pasta is cooked, reserve 1 cup of the pasta water and drain the pasta.
  2. Coat the chicken tenders in flour that has been seasoned with salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning. This is your opportunity to add as much flavor as you can to the chicken tenders!
  3. In a skillet over hot olive oil, brown the chicken for about 3 minutes on each side, or until it is cooked through and golden. After removing the chicken from the skillet, place it aside and cover it.
  4. Add the bell peppers and onions to the skillet with the melted butter. After a few minutes of cooking, or until the peppers are tender but still firm, add the garlic and continue to simmer for another minute.
  5. After adding the wine, let it decrease somewhat (approximately 4 minutes).
  6. To the sauce, add the whipped cream and the pasta water that was set aside. Add the pasta and parmesan cheese as soon as the sauce begins to simmer. Add the chicken tenders and toss to mix.

Your chicken scampi is now prepared; serve it warm with additional grated Parmesan cheese.

The chicken tenders are my favorite part of this recipe. I adore their flavor, color, and texture. I prefer to use my kitchen thermometer to make sure that the chicken tenderloins are cooked through and not overcooked because they are quite tender and only need to be cooked for three minutes on each side.

It is essential to dredge the chicken tenders in seasoned flour; add salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning to the flour to enhance its flavor. Additionally, do not omit the flour because it gives them their beautiful crust and color.

What Is the Best Wine to Use?

Dry white wine should always be used when preparing savory foods. For this chicken scampi, I chose pinot grigio, but you may prepare it with chardonnay, pinto blanc, sauvignon blanc, or semillon (source). For cooking, I typically get packs of tiny bottles so that I don’t have too much that needs to be used up right away.
